Best so far (for me)

I’ve tried all of the news apps and this one fits the bill for me, personally. The content feeds aren’t psychic - there’s still junk of no interest to me that pops up, but far less so than with Google’s app (which I desperately wanted to love).

I find this interface cleaner and it suits the iPhone SE’s smaller screen better than other news apps I’ve used.

Given that this is the same engine and leverages the same account as your Windows 10 login you also get a clean, consistent app experience on all of your devices, whereas Google and Apple have no Microsoft Store apps for their versions (understandably) and Google and Apple don’t have apps for their competitor’s mobile platform (also, understandably). Microsoft is the Switzerland of news apps it seems. Hurray, platform agnosticism!

Best News App - However...

This is far and away the best news app available. But as someone who likes straight news without the constant subtle agendas I really have to remove the pre-made categories and add my own. They really really really shove far left opinion into your face every chance they get at the expense of real and important stories which get buried. Just tell me what’s going on without colorful headlines and commentary. Trump is also not the center of the world why does every article have to be about everything he does? Who cares? The redesign also really forces these opinion articles on you to the point that it feels like logging into Facebook sometimes. But if you just ignore the first screen and go to a topic you created it’s not too bad.

Needs Work Still

There are issues with this app on my iPad. Sometimes it doesn’t open and gives me a blank white screen. It’s forgotten my favorites settings several times. There’s several article that include scrollable content (e.g. articles like top ten things to throw away in your kitchen). With these articles the text content describing the image doesn’t advance properly when my iPad is in landscape mode. The text content skips every other image. It seems to work fine in portrait mode. However in portrait mode there’s not enough space to display all of the text content. Why wouldn’t developers test these types of features on several platforms before releasing the app? It is an improvement over the last version though because with the last version I could never get video content to play on my iPad or iPhone.
