I'm writing to echo what Bill A said in his review. Not only does their Human Resources not return my calls, they'll look up your name, and call your temporary employer to complain that you called them looking for work; imagine that! I have since cancelled my membership. I gave a two rather than a one star for the review, because I had a good immediate supervisor when I worked there. I worked for five months and then was laid off and told that I couldn't work again at the AARP for six months. My temporary employers weren't too thrilled to lose their cut of my salary after finally getting me a job at the AARP. Who would want a worker with some experience to continue working, especially if he is over 60 and might be eligible for benefits and use them. Very efficient if a little inconsistent with the supposed mission. Why would the AARP help out a senior worker? Better to slander him to make sure he can't work for anybody so some young woman in her 30s can be hired. I'd write a letter and explain what happened to their CEO, but I don't want to be further trashed by their human resources with my temporary employer. If they can't get back at you, you might want to get a phone with auto dial and keep it ringing.
You can't talk to anyone at this organiztaion. YOu call a number, leave a message and within 48 hours they will return your call. After 4 weeks and many messages, no one has ever called back. AARP is deducting from my checking account but again, no one will call back and the main AARP organization says they have no reason to hit my checking account. I cannot donate to an organization that won't even answer their phone (per main AARP membership group and my personal experience) and I can't recommend that anyone else donate either. Very strange.
