More precisely, internet traffic is made of packets routing through routers from A to B. In transit the routers dont discriminate based on a) the point of origin or the destination b) the type or content of data transmitted or c) the protocol (the technology) used. 3/n

To conclude, YES, people need to mobilize against the attacks on
#NetNeutrality , but propagating misconceptions about what it is doesn't help. Always make the bet that people are smart and can understand complex problems if you take the time to explain them. It's on you. 14/14pic.twitter.com/vGZUCEinl0Show this thread -
Wow. This blew up. RIP my inbox as they say. Thanks to the 99% of you who thank me or politely rebute some of the points I make. To keep my sanity I’m muting rude people and - because it’s fun - I WILL spoil Starwars to any MAGA/Trumpist troll. Have a good day everybody !

Ok, so given the awesome feedback from you guys I feel compelled to do a follow-up mini-thread to answer the few points that are coming over an over again. 15/14
Show this thread -
Point 1 :
#NetNeutrality didn't exist before 2015 and all was fine so what's all the fuss about ? Answer : It is a core principle of the network and has been there since its infancy. The 2015 law was an answer to the apparent intent of some players to start ignoring it. 16/14Show this thread -
Point 2 : People have a choice of ISP and competition will prevent them from being assholes. Answer : you're ignoring that competition only exists in a vaccum, that many local government offer exclusivity to a single ISP and that collusion is very real in this industry. 17/14
Show this thread -
Point 3 : We're just trying to dumb it down because people are idiots. Answer : never think that or you are the idiot. You know more about a topic than somebody ? Teach them. Educate them. Discuss. Share. They probably know something you don't and think you are the idiot. 18/14

Can’t this be solved with a VPN?
-
until VPN are part of the super premium package or just made illegal. It's happening in some countries.
-
VPN software can be purchased under the table. Although ISPs will likely put their resources into sniffing out VPN users. Let’s pray they’re too greedy to do so
-
oh absolutely, but I'm sure we can agree that having to rely on illegal activities is a less than ideal situation ?
-
Undoubtedly, I’m against having to do extra work, even if it’s perfectly legal. What’s cute is the alt-right internet trolls who’ll probably look back and be pissed at the stance they took BECAUSE FEDERAL GOV IS BAD. Fools...

Y are the search results so bad right now for Google? Why didn’t they give example of what they were trying to solve for with the potential repeal of
#Netneutrality ? Is this just like olli olli oxen Free to my hacker peeps? Is this about Experian? Is this about hackers? -
Like for example, if a rapper wanted to cater to fans, he would need to track social databases to some extent and could use information to harass and bully them, but would make more money selling their information to larger companies who would then do this.
-
Especially if he worked for a larger company, and if they already ran our television channel options, we would literally wind up being fed only the products they make. There is then no choice for the consumer.
-
And meanwhile, let’s say you have an issue with a company because of its lack of ethics, or different beliefs.... and you wanted to buy nothing from them. You’ll never have that option again because everything will be owned by the same exact company that you are trying to avoid.
-
It’s BEEN brainwashing. And now, the FCC is giving them exactly what they need to finish the job.
-
And, full disclosure, you already lost by not listening to each other.

But I see your point, I guess if I own all four railroads, I can raise the price if I want to. See how long I last though. If I say, charge less for hot white men to ride my rails, etc. I mean, the Betty’s gonna whine, but I don’t have to let negative opinions about TaylorSwift

...stay on the comments section. No I don’t, guess why? Oh. I own the website with the article with the comment section. I’ll probably get paid just for you continually reopening the same page to figure out why the moderator keeps not posting your normal comment bout her ugliness
