After the first and second successful rounds of BDE Workshops, we are pleased to announce the third and final one!

This upcoming round will again address each one of the seven H2020 societal challenge communities, providing thus wide-ranging opportunities for active stakeholder engagement. Participation is free of charge.

The primary objective of the third round of workshops (March – November 2017) will be to showcase the progress, impact and results of the seven pilot use-cases. The pilots will demonstrate the features and flexibility of the big data integrator platform, allowing participants to understand the potential of the stack of technologies being made available by the project.

Please find below the schedule of the next BigDataEurope Workshops. Some workshops will be again be collocated with established and influential related events. The presence of EC representatives is, as usual, strongly expected.

BDE will participate to the 4th Edition Wind Power Big Data and IoT Forum to be held on the 8th – 9th November 2017 at Wyndham Garden Berlin Mitte, Berlin, Germany.

BDE will present the latest advances of Big-Data-Europe platform and the pilot applications in the Energy domain.

The conference focuses on the hot topics that industry is interested in, namely:

• Integrated Solution for Data Collection, Reporting and Machine Learning Applications in Wind Industry

The event is an excellent opportunity for presenting BDE solutions that open new possibilities in IT applications and especially for the SC3 case capabilities for voluminous data management and analysis. 

BDE presentation will be attended by engineers from Wind Power Industry, Energy & Utilities, IT field, Operation and Maintenance and by Technological solution providers. 

The 3^rd International Conference on Digital Data Integration & Management was held successfully in Berlin, September 26-28.

The event was focused on how SCADA data gathering can lead to advanced and pro-active asset management for the increase of turbine efficiency through sophisticated data management and control. 

The main topics covered were:

• Increasing Turbine efficiency through sophisticated data management and control
• Optimize wind farm performance through the use of LiDAR and SCADA data
• How to turn data into actionable insights
• New concepts for wind turbine and plant level control systems
• From Scada to Asset Management
• Conditional monitoring
• Digital infrastructure to collect, visualize and analyse data
• Failure analysis and predictive maintenance tools

The Conference’s program was divided in the following sections:

• Operational wind turbine data – requirements, access and analysis for turbine and park optimization
• Big data an IoT – supporting decision making in wind turbine operation
• Advanced forecasting and condition monitoring to improve performance and reduce risks
• Lidar measurement for more accurate measurements and a higher energy yield
• Integrating wind power into the electricity market

During Conference’s first day, Dimitri Foussekis from CRES presented the BDE platform for Condition Monitoring of wind turbines (SC3 Energy, 2^nd pilot). In brief, the main specifications of the CMS (Condition Monitoring System) were presented, as well as, the reasoning behind the choice of Apache’s Spark as the basic component of platform for the analysis of 150TB of measured data.

Finally, 3 interactive workshops were also held to actively foster open exchange and discussion and promote decisions crucial to business excellence.

BDE presentation attracted the very interest of participants and the consequent discussion revolved around the capabilities of dealing with voluminous data sets and the opportunities of BDE platform. 

We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming BDE-SC5 event entitled “Collective Awareness Platform on Data Needs, Citizens’ Participation and Big Regulatory Society Challenges: A Worldwide Exploitation of Emerging Technologies” to take place on 6-7 November 2017 in Brussels, co-organised by BDE and JRC-Ispra.
