Field Trips

This year, Connolly Ranch celebrates 25 years of field trips!

A working farm in Browns Valley, Connolly Ranch offers engaging, hands-on, farm-based educational programs designed to meet California state standards from preschool to high school. Watch as science, language arts, history, physical education, nutrition, and even math come to life while your students enjoy learning in the great outdoors. In addition to spending time with our farm animals, our field trips teach the sources and benefits of healthy foods and an understanding of how nature works to nourish and sustain us. This program also supports the development of the whole child through opening and closing lessons on how to connect with yourself, nature and each other.

Each teacher will have a phone consultation with our Education Director to determine the type and learning objectives of your field trip, based on the needs of your class. After 25 years of year-round educational programs on the farm, we are sure to have a lesson that can fit into almost any classroom curriculum. Field trip activities usually include your choice of 3 rotations in any of the following areas: pollination, life cycles, plant & animal identification, cooking, nutrition, gardening, oak woodland ecology & hiking, nature art or writing projects, Wappo Native American history, environmental education, and more. Service projects and special team building programming is also available for middle and high school students.

Our field trips take place Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m – 1:00 p.m and include animals lessons, educational games, nutrition lessons, garden activities, and active outdoor play. Field trips are subsidized at a rate of 40-85%, and are priced on a sliding scale from $5-$25 per student. The price of your trip will be based upon financial need, materials needed for field trip activities and available funding. We also have a scholarship fund, providing full-scholarships for students in great financial need.
