Blue Hour at Mono Lake
After the "super moon" rise at Mono Lake last month, I stayed to get a blue hour photo of these tufa rock formations, back-lit by the light of the full moon. I entered this and several other photos in the annual calendar contest conducted by the +Mono Lake Committee... fingers crossed!

Adam Ondra's Historic Free Climb of El Capitan
I was wondering who would be climbing El Capitan at night, but when you have a record to break, every minute is precious. I learned after my workshop last week that we had captured Adam Ondra on his record-breaking free climb of El Capitan on the night of November 15.

Bodie Researched for Alton Towers Theme Park
This was a fun video to shoot. U.K. theme park Alton Towers decided to research an authentic mining town for an attraction they're opening this week. We spent one day up in Bodie capturing video, time-lapse footage, stills, interviews and sounds, and this was the result.

I'd like to thank the California Film Commission for the quick turnaround on our film permit, Bodie State Historic Park / +California State Parks for supporting the research and production, and +Lori Hibbett for producing sunrise and night time-lapse footage of Bodie's iconic car on the shoot.

Sunset in Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows
A short hike and a long lens yielded this stunning view in the High Sierra Saturday night. I hadn't visited this vantage point in a while, but it seemed like it might pay off for this sunset.

Stormy Day in Bodie
At lest a couple of dozen photos from the July 29 night photography workshop are included in the Bodie Photography Workshops album. Torrential rains came to town at 3 pm, just as many workshop participants were leaving town to join us for a pre-workshop dinner at Virginia Creek Settlement. The rain cleared the air of smoke from California's wildfires, then the clouds added to the drama in the sky through golden hour and into sunset, but as often happens, quickly broke up for night photography. It was perfect photography workshop weather!

Our remaining Bodie workshops in 2016 are getting pretty full, so I'm looking into potentially adding a date in October. Let me know if you want to hear about 2017 dates once I have them. The most popular dates do fill quickly these days.

Mono Lake / Eastern Sierra Workshop Last Week
As I did most of the summer, I held an Eastern Sierra workshop adjacent to my Bodie workshop last weekend, so people could see more of the area and get some practice with night photography before getting to Bodie on Sunday. Summer evenings are often windy, but that doesn't mean that you can't get good sunset shots!

We actually spent some time up in the Tioga Pass area as well, enjoying afternoon cumulous clouds, sunset, and night photography.
I'll have a couple of fall workshops in early October when we can revisit those areas:

Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows Sunday Night
I headed up to the Tioga Pass Road in Yosemite to see how current summer water levels in the Tuolumne River might influence my workshop later this week. With water levels dropping, there are some nice calm spots for sunset reflections.
