About the course

Our Professional Yachtmaster Offshore course will provide you with the comprehensive training and qualifications required to work within the maritime industry as a yacht skipper or as superyacht crew.

The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate is recognised and respected around the world and is the ultimate aim of many skippers looking for employment opportunities in flotilla, charter, deliveries and instruction.

The course also provides additional training and certification required to open up employment for those looking to work onboard and start a career in the superyacht industry. Alongside the STCW Basic Safety Training certification the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification is fast becoming the entry level requirement for those looking at a long term career within the superyacht industry.

Training at UKSA

The all-inclusive course gives you training, preparation and practical experience. We will prepare you for your first steps in the industry thanks to our unrivalled guidance and teaching and unique links with the maritime industry. All food and accommodation is included, meaning you can focus on your studies.

Course Overview:

  • 14-week course

  • Mile-building covering a minimum of 2,500 tidal miles, including self-skippering

  • MCA STCW Basic Training
  • MCA Proficiency in Designated Security Duties
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2
  • RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency
  • RYA Short Range Radio
  • RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance

Pre-requisites

You must have an ENG1 seafarer medical fitness certificate to work at sea (click here for more details) and to enable you to apply for your RYA Commercial Endorsement (click here for more details).

Commercial Endorsement

To work professionally within the maritime industry, you must be commercially endorsed. To commercially endorse your RYA Yachtmaster Certification at the end of your training, you will need to complete the RYA Application for Commercial Endorsement Form.

Professional Yachtmaster bolt-on options:

Upgrade to Ocean Training:

The Professional Yachtmaster Offshore qualification allows you to work up to a maximum of 150 miles offshore (with a ENG1 Medical) or 60 miles (with an ML5). Ocean Training enables you to work beyond the 150-mile limit, therefore potentially increasing your employment options.

Add an extra 40 days to your Yachtmaster Ocean course to receive the full Ocean qualification.

Additional cost: £6,365 (inclusive of all food and accommodation)

RYA Cruising Instructor

The 5-day course will open opportunities to work as an RYA Instructor at an RYA accredited school in a freelance capacity. You will be qualified to teach up to the RYA Day Skipper Practical level. Click here for more information.
