Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Skiing and Snowboarding. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

Scope[edit]

We need to get a variety of good English language articles relating to skiing and snowboarding. This includes the companies, mountains, and athletes. Everybody is welcome to join, no matter how you get down the mountain in one or two planks (or up).

This WikiProject also includes variants like skiboarding and snowskate.

Participants[edit]

  • zzz345zzz (talk · contribs) – Founder of the project. Coming back from a hiatus, just working on general cleanup and organization of the project.
  • TheSkiRacer (talk · contribs) - Ex-professional ski racer. I love the snow and I love editing winter sports articles!
  • Docu (talk · contribs) – contributing a few stubs.
  • Allison Stillwell (talk · contribs) – Definitely interested in helping with this project.
  • EvilSuggestions (talk · contribs) 05:05, 5 June 2006 (UTC) Talk
  • Baoluo (talk · contribs) 07:40, 16 July 2006 (UTC) I think am interested in helping with this project. I think the various sections that pertain to uphill transportation at ski areas (e.g. chairlifts, gondolas, t-bars, etc.) should be grouped in one section. All elevated passenger ropeways have more similarities than differences, and a cogent discussion of these characteristics would be better served by dealing with them together. I would also like work on compiling a list of ski resorts around the world. Does anyone know if it is premitted to add google earth stills to Wikipedia?
  • EncMstr (talk · contribs) 23:40, 29 August 2006 (UTC) – I've acted as a participant, though gnomishly. (Baoluo, 1. see List of ski areas. 2. Google images are copyrighted, but we can link to them without a problem.)
  • Balerion (talk · contribs) – I'll help out with mainly New England stuff. --Balerion 06:55, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Kingutd (talk · contribs) – I'll work on the Australian ski resorts.
  • Jameschipmunk (talk · contribs) – I'll contribute to any of the Colorado ski areas
  • Searles2sels (talk · contribs) 15:13, 18 September 2006 (UTC) – I'll work here when I can, and on my winter wiki when I can't. Also, can we please get rid of that picture of the army dude racing? it hurts.
  • Canadian-Bacon (talk · contribs) – I'll start with eastern Canadian resorts. If I have time I'll try and start working on the companies.
  • Qyd (talk · contribs) – Canadian Rockies ski resorts
  • DebateLord (talk · contribs) – Colorado skier happy to contribue to articles on CO resorts and help cleanup others as time permits. Will work on getting more pictures of resorts I visit this season.
  • Bmitchelf (talk · contribs) 14:29, 19 October 2006 (UTC) – I have contributed a lot to the Okemo Mountain article already and can add other facts about mountains where I ski (too many to list) if there are already articles. I also wrote the whole article for the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge, if anybody knows what that is.
  • WinterOfDiscontent (talk · contribs) – Happy to help where I can. I started the Dynastar stub and will do more where I can.
  • Mikeh0303 (talk · contribs) Starter of the Armada (company) Page. And helping with the Big White page
  • Shaggorama (talk · contribs) – Mostly just maintaining Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts, but also write for snowboarding-related articles
  • Doublejayy2k (talk · contribs) – Love to write about the Pro Circuit, USSA and UST, Northeastern resorts. I would love to write an article about Vail.
  • Powderhound11 (talk · contribs) – From downunder, made the Scot Schmidt page, contributed to the Michael Milton page.
  • Montchav (talk · contribs) – Been living and working in the French ski resorts, have tonnes of love for them, and plenty of reference materials to hand.
  • Snowfreak91287 (talk · contribs) Grew up at Mount Snow, VT, edited MS page, live and frequently ski in New Hampshire.
  • HazardousWaster (talk · contribs) – Could do French/Swiss alpine resorts, but more interested in technique and technology-related pages (got my eye on 'Carve turn') for both alpine (better word than 'downhill', given that 'downhill' is also a WC event, no?) and Nordic skiing. University- (college) level racer.
  • RideABicycle (talk · contribs) 21:30, 16 February 2007 (UTC) – Skier at Hunter Mountain (ski area), USSA/NYSSRA racer, lover of sport and interested in helping out. I'd love to just work on the to-do lists for now, especially race pages. I've noticed that all pages on Alpine Racing are weak, and they definitely need work.
  • Seattle Skier (talk · contribs) – West Coast ski areas (especially lesser-known ones in AK, WA, OR, far northern CA), New England too; major contributor to Alpine skiing World Cup articles
  • Baileypalblue (talk · contribs) – Interested in resort pages for Utah, Vermont, New Hampshire, the Mid-Atlantic region, and the Southeast; that's a lot of material, so the assistance of others will be very much appreciated!
  • Maelgwn (talk · contribs)
  • Lostvalley (talk · contribs) 12:07, 3 July 2007 (UTC) – New England and Switzerland.
  • Hartig1 (talk · contribs), Added a bit of information to a few athletes.
  • kvrbc (talk · contribs), Will be updating, and staring new pages for Canada West. Mountains that I am currently updating: Silver Star Mountain Resort, Red Mountain Resort, Whitewater Ski Resort. Please add photo's if you have any.
  • Fase11 (talk · contribs) 16:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC) – Wisconsin Ski Areas and possibly more
  • Billscottbob (talk · contribs) 20:26, 9 December 2007 (UTC) – Able to work on Western Canadian ski hills (esp. Sunshine Village, Nakiska, Lake Louise, Fernie, Kicking Horse and Canada Olympic Park) and Avalanche-related articles.
  • Rickdrew (talk · contribs) – Midwest ski areas. Created the Wilmot Mountain page, Updated Marquette Mountain and others. Added photos to Marquette and Wilmot. I will be visiting Indianhead, Wilmot, Marquette and Schuss Mtn/Shanty Creek, and hopefully more in 2008. I'm the official photographer for our race group, aud shoot around 4000 each year.
  • Tanthalas39 (talk · contribs) – I live in Phoenix, Arizona and frequent the Arizona and Colorado ski areas. I've snowboarded for sixteen years now (I'm a pioneer!), but am probably more interested in the historical, factual, and cultural facets of skiing and snowboarding, rather than the sport or biography areas.
  • Skierbum69 (talk · contribs) – Rather knowledgeable about ski resorts in the Pacific Northwest, and I follow the Alpine World Cup regularly. These two areas will be my primary focus.
  • LanceBarber (talk · contribs) Colorado skiing since 1963!! I am amazed on on how mamy Colo ski area are not up to B-class, especially with the participation in WikiProj Colo...dumb-founded...guess I gotta "dig in"... put my other wiki projs on lower priority... come on folks, let's kick it up a knotch or TEN. *{{User|Jameschipmunk]], User:DebateLord, and I, plus User:Tanthalas39 part-time, can get the Colo ski areas up to par.... still amazed that Buttermilk is just a mere sentence or two... and no history on the lodge fire at A-Basin back in the 60s...!!!
  • Roadrunner Photog (talk · contribs), after reading the skiing article, I had to help, and contribute my knowledge from my own skiing prowess, but more from my years in the industry.
  • Apocalypsecabaret (talk · contribs) I'm currently working on unfinished articles on various skiers in the Alpine skiing world cup, and putting in the results of the 2008 events. I might help with articles on resorts I have been to such as Aviemore in Scotland, and some Italian, French and Swiss resorts.
  • Skookum1 (talk · contribs) – a non-skier (albeit former Whistler local...'80s vintage) but currently working on adding/catting/templating ski area articles within British Columbia so temporarily adding myself here and will be popping by/looking for help on improving new articles/stubs in the next while. See Category talk:Ski areas and resorts in British Columbia and Template talk:Ski areas and resorts in the Canadian Rockies vs {{Ski areas and resorts in British Columbia}}.Skookum1 (talk) 15:17, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Neroyak (talk · contribs) I have a passionate interest in Freestyle skiing and have created and contributed to numerous articles on freestyle skiers.
  • Weaseleditor (talk · contribs) 8 August 2008. – There seems to be no coverage of Snowcat Skiing with reference from the Types of Skiing page. I can initiate a stub for this topic, it is not already being worked on.
  • Bigbadbogie (talk · contribs) 28 January 2009 – updating California/Nevada Sierra Resort Information by Fact finding trips and personal observation. Former/Current Sierra Resort Employee and High Sierra Rider. Next stop New Zealand.

I started an article based on the heliskiing article, see at Snowcat skiing Michilans (talk) 14:26, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
