The RYA has serious concerns over proposed border controls for recreational craft entering or leaving the UK
It is the stated intention of the UK Government to "continue to strengthen our borders" and "enhance our border security."
However, Government has not published a comprehensive proposal of how it intends to achieve this in the recreational boating sector.
The RYA wants to achieve
- No compulsory reporting of cross border movements by recreational craft for intra-EU voyages.
RYA position
- The RYA does not believe that requiring the reporting of all cross-border movements in the recreational boating sector would be the most appropriate, proportionate, effective or efficient mechanism for securing the entire sea border.
- The RYA opposes the implementation of a regime in which cross-border voyages to and from other EU states by recreational craft are required to be notified to the UK Government in advance of the voyage.
