In acknowledgement of the diversity of groups contributing to the Wikimedia movement, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees recognizes models of affiliation within the Wikimedia movement – chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups.

History:

The current Wikimedia affiliation models was developed by the Movement roles project. Development began in 2010 after discussion at the Chapters meeting 2010 and was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees on March 31, 2012. The Affiliations Committee advises and makes recommendations regarding the recognition and existence of Wikimedia movement affiliates.

  • 2016-12-18 The Affiliations Committee announced call for membership for 2017-18 term.
  • 2016-11-7 WikiDonne User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-11-7 WikiConference North America User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-10-25 Wiki Education Brazil is now recognized as a Wikimedia User Group, replacing "Wikimedia Community Brazilian Education and Research".
  • 2016-09-26 Tremendous Wiktionary User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-09-26 Whose Knowledge is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-09-26 Art+Feminism User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2016-09-26 GLAM Macedonia Wikimedians is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
