Privacy

Welcome

Sitestat is part of the comScore, Inc. community, a leading global market research company that studies and reports on Internet trends and behavior. Sitestat conducts its business by collecting Internet web browsing data for the web sites tagged with the Sitestat analytics tag for sole use by the web site owners.

About

Through our global research efforts, Sitestat collects data that assists companies around the world in providing products and services that better meet the needs of consumers. By analyzing general visitation patterns, Sitestat is able to help companies better understand the likes and dislikes of their web site visitors.

Web tags
Sitestat collects data through the use of web tags. A web tag is code placed by website owners on their web sites to collect information about general visitation patterns. Web tags are commonly used by companies across the Internet to understand the visitation on their web site.

Cookies
In addition, the Sitestat web tag utilizes a cookie. A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your web browser from a web site and stored on your computer‘s hard drive. Sitestat uses a combination of web tags and cookies to help websites count users who have visited and seen a page or various parts of a page. We require that any website using our web tags include a notice about their use to collect anonymous traffic data and to state what choices are available to users regarding the use of the information collected. You can opt-out of participating in Sitestat’s web tagging by clicking here.

Privacy Policy

Sitestat is a domain used in support of Digital Analytix, a Web Analytics platform for services provided by comScore, Inc.  In short, Web Analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of internet data, primarily for the purpose of understanding web usage.

If a comScore client elects to use Digital Analytix to measure their online “events” - which may include the client’s websites, video or audio streams, video or audio players, or other web-based objects - the client would embed a “tag” in the event.  If you, as a visitor or user of such an event (hereinafter "user"), interact with the website, stream or player, the tag causes your visit or use to be measured.  This measurement is then sent to comScore, where it is aggregated with other measurements and reported back to the client.

The measurements collected by comScore are referred to in this privacy policy as "data".

What information, including personal information, is collected?

Digital Analytix will collect the IP-addresses of users, however, the comScore client who has implemented Digital Analytix has the option to have IP-addresses partially destroyed.  If the client avails itself of this option, the destruction is usually implemented by removing portions or the entirety of the last octet from the IP-address before the data is further processed.

Additionally, if available, cookies and device or network specific identifiers, are processed by Digital Analytix for the sole purpose of recognizing returning users.  However, this recognition is based on an ID generated by Digital Analytix, not on a user’s name or other personal information.  So, for instance, Digital Analytix will be able to recognize that ID12345 went to a website three times.  Digital Analytix will not recognize that “Bob” went to a website three times.  comScore does not use any of the data collected through Digital Analytix to identify a natural person.

Device or network specific identifiers are always encrypted before they are processed in Digital Analytix. This encryption uses a one-way hash, rendering it virtually impossible to determine the original identifiers from the encrypted identifiers.

How do you use tagging and cookies to collect information?

If a browser visits or uses an online event with a Sitestat tag, the tag instructs the browser to do an image request to our measurement servers. This request informs us whether there is a Sitestat cookie on the visitor’s computer.

  1. If there isn’t, we will set a cookie, containing a uniquely generated static number. It may additionally contain a number indicating which version of the online event has been shown to that particular browser and when.
  2. If there is, the browser sends it along with the next request, enabling us to report that this is a returning browser.

While some cookies may contain personal data, Digital Analytix cookies do not. Digital Analytix cookies have a validity of 13 months.

How is the information used?

The data is used solely to provide clients with statistical reports relating to that client’s web based events.

How do I opt out?

Essentially, there are two ways to opt out.

If you would like to opt out from being a part of data measurement on a particular event, you should contact the owner of that event.  comScore does not have the ability to invoke an opt out just for a particular event.

If, on the other hand, you would like to opt out from being measured ever by Digital Analytix, you may opt out by clicking here.  If you choose this opt out, a cookie will be placed on your computer instructing Digital Analytix not to measure your use of or visits to events with Digital Analytix tags.  However, please note that if your web browser does not accept cookies, or if you delete the opt out cookie, the opt out is invalidated.  Also, please note that this opt out is only effective for the web browser you were using when you opted out, because cookies are specific to each web browser.
