Archives Society of Alberta (ASA) features its annual Archives Week launch event: Coming to Alberta. Come hear dramatic readings of letters and oral histories telling the true stories of people from around the world immigrating to Alberta.

Inspired by the Archives Week theme Coming to Alberta, the display Coming to Edmonton: How to Research Immigration at the City of Edmonton Archives is a quick guide to the material at the Archives and shows what you can learn about immigration from them.

Visit the Archives at the Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre,10440 108 Ave. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and on Wednesday from 8:30 am to 8 pm.

Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum

During both the First and Second World Wars Canadian soldiers fighting overseas fell in love and married local girls. When the war ended many of these women, some with young children, decided to make the journey to Canada and start a new life in their husbands’ country. Come check out our display featuring the stories of some of the women who married Loyal Edmonton Regiment soldiers and came to Alberta.

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum is located in Prince of Wales Armouries, 10440 – 108 Avenue and is open Monday to Friday, 10 am to 4 pm.

Musée Héritage Museum

Throughout the week of October 1–8, 2016, the Musée Héritage Museum will celebrate Archives Week with a special display of archival materials about travel set up in the museum. Come see historical photographs, postcards, passports and many more! The Musée’s archivists, Vino and Jia Jia, will also be giving tours of the archives for any of our visitors who might be interested in seeing this space.

On Saturday, October 8 from 11 am to 4 pm, the Musée Héritage Museum is hosting a Postcards for Peace event. Partnering with Veterans Affairs Canada, we’re writing postcards to those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace throughout the world.

Drop in and make a postcard to send! All materials are provided and we welcome all children and adults who would like to participate. You are also welcome to write the postcards at home and then drop them off to us at the museum, or stop by, select one of our many St. Albert postcards here at the museum, and write your message.

We're located in St. Albert Place, 5 St Anne Street.

Athabasca

Alice B. Donahue Library and Archives

Athabasca's Bygone Businesses, an interactive exhibit, will feature historic small useful objects given away as advertising by local businesses. A selection of photos and other information will accompany the artifacts. We plan on encouraging guests to tell us stories they might have about their experiences with the featured businesses.

We will be extending our hours of operation on Tuesday, Oct.4 and 6 to 8:00 pm.
