Mission:

The Humane Farming Association (HFA) - now over 200,000 members strong - is the nation''s largest and most effective organization dedicated to the protection of farm animals. Founded in 1985, HFA has gained national recognition and respect through its hard work and its highly-visible, highly-successful campaigns.HFA''s goals are: 1) to protect farm animals from cruelty; 2) to protect the public from the dangerous misuse of antibiotics, hormones, and other chemicals used on factory farms; 3) to protect the environment from the impacts of industrialized animal factories.HFA''s comprehensive programs include: anti-cruelty investigations and exposs, national media and ad campaigns, direct hands-on emergency care and refuge for abused farm animals, consumer boycotts, legislation, and youth humane education. HFA''s National Veal Boycott continues to be the single most successful campaign ever conducted against factory farming. Achieving an unprecedented drop of nearly 70% in the sale of drugged, anemic, and tortured baby calves, HFA''s groundbreaking investigations have just resulted in the first-ever felony convictions of veal industry leaders. HFA''s efforts against Bovine Growth Hormones have been pivotal in mobilizing the public against this cruel and dangerous dairy hormone. And HFA''s campaigns to stop the abuse of millions of pigs, chickens, and other victims of factory farming continue to turn the tide against the abusive factory farm industry. The outstanding work of the Humane Farming Association is regularly featured on network television and nationally-broadcast radio programs such as ABC''s PrimeTIME Live, Good Morning America, World News This Morning and CBS'' 60 Minutes. HFA''s hard-hitting expos?s have appeared in Time, Newsweek, People, U.S. News and World Report, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and dozens of other major publications across the country. As HFA makes headlines for its landmark victories and hard-hitting anti-cruelty campaigns, there is another equally meaningful aspect to our work - and that is HFA''s Farm Animal Refuge. HFA''s Farm Animal Refuge is the largest farm animal rescue facility in the world. Over seven square miles, HFA''s Refuge offers hands-on emergency care, rehabilitation, and refuge for abused farm animals. HFA is the only national farm animal protection organization with a shelter that has never turned away farm animals seized as a result of a cruelty case.In 1991, HFA established its political and legislative arm - the Humane Farming Action Fund (HFAF). HFAF is the nation''s only political lobbying organization founded exclusively to protect animals raised on farms. HFAF enacts strong and enforceable legislation to outlaw animal abuse and works to ensure that existing anti-cruelty laws are not undermined or weakened by inhumane and unethical meat industry-backed legislation. All combined, HFA''s programs and activities represent the greatest hopes of those seeking to create a better world for all of earth''s creatures.

Programs:

The Humane Farming Association's programs includes our campaign to end factory farming and slaughterhouse abuses. We operate the nation's largest farm animal refuge, and will turn no farm animal away that is rescued in a cruelty case. The fact that HFA stands ready to provide both temporary and permanent care encourages law enforcement agencies to use their legal authority to confiscate abused farm animals and remove them from cruelty.

HFA has shown that Humane Society is not what it seems. I checked both out very thoroughly and the Humane Society has become too political and big. I stopped giving to the Humane Society long ago. HFA does great work.

I have been a member of the Humane Farming Association for over fifteen years. HFA is the most effective farm animal rights group there is. In addition, HFA runs the largest farm animal sanctuary in the country. HFA does not use professional fundraisers and sends an appropriate amount of solicitations during the year. Finally, when HFA solicits donations for it's political arm (Action Fund), it is careful to state up-front that donations for legislative work are not tax-deductible.

I've done my research, too. What I can say is that if my modest donation has even a chance of easing the suffering of one of these precious quivering creatures, then to give is my privilege, to turn away, my shame. Thank you HFA, what would they do without you?

After some significant research I just decided to become a supporter of the HFA. They seem like a focused organization with a good use of funds.

I was thrown off by iabrams' comment regarding the egg bill, but after further research found HFA's position on the bill and find their position more impactful than the HSUS (http://hfa.org/hsus_smear_tactics.html, https://www.hfa.org/pr012412.html). In fact, I lost respect for the HSUS through what I learned and gained respect for HFA.

I just donated to this charity, but subsequently discovered the article linked here, which is from the Humane Society website and is quite damning. I regret my donation and cannot imagine giving again:

This is a legit organization that makes a positive difference on a crucial issue that too few people ignore because it's too inconvenient to face. Their efforts in exposing farm animal abuse and rescuing abused animals are to be lauded. I will continue to support them with my donations!

This is a fantastic organization. Don’t fall for Bruce Muncil’s comment. Contrary to his phony claim, I’ve been informed that he has never been a donor to HFA. Those of us who actually are supporters can attest to HFA’s high ethical standards and professionalism. More importantly, HFA continues to be phenomenally successfully at combating animal cruelty. That’s why, after more than 20 years, I remain a proud supporter.

HFA Campaign Against Factory Farming - Subject of HBO Documentary

HFA secured a conviction in this case for the way in which piglets were being brutalized. This was the very first time in the state’s history that there was a successful cruelty prosecution of a hog factory.

For the first time ever in the United States, a feature documentary regarding the mistreatment of animals within the pork industry has been broadcast by a major cable network. HBO’s Death on A Factory Farm focuses exclusively on the groundbreaking work of the Humane Farming Association, detailing HFA’s undercover investigation of Wiles Farm, the notorious hog factory located in Wayne County, Ohio.

The abuses uncovered by HFA at Wiles Farm include the starvation of sick and injured pigs, forcing pigs to live in their own waste, severe overcrowding and cannibalism, beatings, inhumane transport – and the hanging and slow death by asphyxiation of struggling and fully conscious pigs. Against overwhelming odds, HFA secured a conviction in this case for the way in which piglets were being brutalized.

The Humane Farming Association (HFA) continues to be our nation’s most effective and credible organization working on farm animal issues. Don’t be misled by HSUS’s smear tactics. The HFA has been instrumental in the passage of anti-cruelty laws on a wide range of issues. From prohibiting the sale and slaughter of downed animals, to the passage of animal abandonment legislation. From outlawing the transport and slaughter of horses for human consumption, to the inclusion of farm animals in animal abandonment laws. HFA was also responsible for introducing the first legislation in U.S history targeting the cruel confinement of animals on factory farms. These groundbreaking actions set the framework for an entire movement. And that’s all in addition to running Suwanna Ranch, the nation’s largest farm animal sanctuary and emergency care center. This is just some of why HFA is my favorite animal protection group!
