The recent shooting in an Orlando nightclub was the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States. People in Orlando and beyond want to show their support for the victims and their families. They are lining up by the hundreds to attend candlelight vigils, donate blood, and show solidarity.
They are concerned with questions of equality, violence and freedom. One question stands out: Are our gun laws doing enough to prevent tragedies like this from happening again? Given the events of June 12th, the answer seems to be a clear, “No.”
Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, told the Wall Street Journal, “Florida’s approach to gun laws does nothing to prevent these types of tragedies—in fact, quite the opposite—and makes it all too easy for people intent on doing harm, from terrorists to domestic abusers to violent felons, to get guns.”
