Winners in the contest will be unveiled on Wednesday, Aug. 24, in the special Destinations section inside your newspaper.
This summer my boyfriend picked me up from college in Arizona. We road tripped all the way back to Illinois and saw some amazing things along the way. This was just one of our many stops on the way home. (Photo: @averyj)
I was impressed with this woman and others I encountered in Havana. Engaging. Entertaining. Inventive in their circumstance. Creatively Cuban. (photo: @zyxq)
I arrived to Yellowstone after dark but didn't want to let that stop me from exploring. I headed straight to Old Faithful to see one of its famous eruptions. I had never seen Old Faithful so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was steaming when I first arrived and thought that meant it was going off so I scrambled to take a few photos, then it stopped and I was disheartened I missed photographing an eruption and would have to wait for another. A few seconds later it went off for real and I was floored by the power of the geyser! It erupted for a good two minutes and the entire time I sat in awe of the scene that I was able to witness without any other tourists under the cover of a starry night sky! It was a truly remarkable experience. (photo: @SonjaS)
Took a weekend trip up to Devil's Lake State Park Wisconsin (30 minutes from Madison). Snagged this shot of a kayaker down on the lake at sunset. (photo: @willmckay)
You can see photos of this, but until you visit Arlington and stand in place and turn around and all you can see is the white grave stones it is hard to understand the number of soldiers who have gave their lives to defend our Freedom. God bless all our soldiers. (photo: @JLorenzen)
In North Platte, NE, I just turned off the interstate to go to the motel that I had reserved when I saw the pretty swirly clouds. As I took the picture, my cell phone sent an Emergency Alert "Tornado...Seek shelter". I dropped the phone and drove to hotel a half of mile away. I was shocked that it was a tornado which touched down at the lake even though the clouds were getting dark, I didn't know I took a picture of a tornado. What a surprise. (Photo: @Queenbee)
This perfectly placed waterfall and mountain are from the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in west Iceland. The waterfall is a little hard to find and I drove by it a few times before I finally noticed it. The mountain's real name is Kirkjufell. That translates to Church Mountain, but I think it looks more like a witch's hat. (photo: @snowglobal)
We boarded our horse-drawn carriage at dawn and went for a ride in Killarney National Park, County Kerry, Ireland. The castle and moat are included in the photo. (photo: @bluelanter)
Caernarfon Castle, medieval fortress in Caernarfon, Gwynedd northwest Wales, just before closing. Amazing to stand there without a soul in sight! (photo: @CaseyB)
Back light wheat grass just chillin' in the setting sun. This is in South Dakota just on the side of the road to Platte Creek Campground. Great place! (photo: @HSchultz)
The Duomo in Siena, Italy is a beautiful building. At midday, it will always be surrounded with hordes of tourists and school kids. But early in the morning, one can almost have the surrounding plaza to yourself. This morning as I walked through the plaza, a young woman in a bright orange dress was sitting on a bench next to the Duomo, absorbed in her phone, waiting perhaps for a friend to arrive. The contrast of the dress with the lovely stonework in early light was wonderful. (photo: @PColeman)
