Change the privacy settings for your event

If you share your calendar, your events have the same privacy settings as your calendar. If you want, you can change what others can see about certain events.

First, learn your calendar's privacy settings

It's important to know your calendar's settings because any events created on that calendar have the same privacy settings unless you edit the event.

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar
  2. On the left side of the page, find the My calendars section.
  3. To the right of the calendar you want to check settings for, click the down arrow   > Share this calendar.
  4. On this page, you'll see an overview of the calendar's sharing settings and a list of anyone the calendar has been shared with.

Next, learn your event sharing options

Using what you learned about your calendar's privacy settings in the step above, choose how your calendar is shared to learn more about what event settings are available.

My calendar isn't shared with anyone

Your calendar isn't shared with anyone, so your events aren't either.

No matter which settings you choose for your event, the event will only be seen by you.

I've only shared my calendar with specific people

When you share your calendar with people, you have the option to let them:

  • See only free/busy
  • See all event details
  • Make changes to events
  • Make changes to events and manage sharing

Depending on which of these options you've chosen, the people you've shared your calendar with may see different amounts of information about your events.

See only free/busy

  • Default: Events show as "busy."
  • Public: People you've shared your calendar with can see all event details.
  • Private: Events show as "busy."
