BLS wins Disability Sport NI’s ‘Inclusive Club Award’

We are very proud to have been presented with the Inclusive Club Award for disability clubs by Disability Sport NI.

It’s wonderful to have been recognised as a sports club that positively includes people with disabilities. Nominations were open to both mainstream and disability sports clubs who have made noteworthy improvements or introduced innovative programmes to include people with disabilities in the last twelve months. Thomas Bruton’s Adventure Journey

On Tuesday 6 December, our friend Thomas Bruton will be presented with the President’s Award Gold Gaisce by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins – five years after learning about the Award from Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer Alex Palmer at The Lighthouse Trust, Donaghadee, and working through the Bronze and Silver Gaice. Thomas had attended Sailability sessions with us before and decided to join our Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland supported 2016 Summer Scheme at Carrickfergus last July for the Award’s Adventure Journey module. RYANI awards for BLS volunteers

BLS volunteers featured strongly in the RYA Northern Ireland annual awards at Royal Ulster Yacht Club, Bangor recently. With 13 prize winners, 90 guests and five Olympians in attendance, the prestigious ceremony, which took place on Friday November 11th, recognised successful sailors, rising stars and volunteers who have made a positive difference to the sport over the last year. BLS Volunteer’s Lady Taverners awards success

Belfast Lough Sailability sailor and young volunteer Eoin Bannon was a successful award winner at the recent Lady Taverners Spirit of Sport Awards in Belfast. The Spirit of Sport Award winners are recognised young people who display the right spirit and positive qualities, like determination, commitment and sportsmanship when they play.
