The body of the slain Tunisian opposition leader Chokri Belaid returned home Thursday, after his death on Wednesday. Angry demonstrations continued as the fallout from his assassination continued to unfold.
Dramatic footage was shared by many Syrian activist accounts early on February 6 which claims to show a dramatic incident that took place in Bustan al-Qasr, Aleppo, on November 16, 2012. It shows a young girl singing in front of the camera when what is described as a mortar shell explodes behind her as she is performing. It appears from the footage that the girl survives. Meanwhile, activists reported a large fire in Jobar in north-east Damascus which appears to have been caused by random shelling. The shelling began after insurgents attacked a checkpoint at the Harmala bin al Waleed Mosque, a few kilometers away.
Jamaat-e-Islami supporters rallied n Dhaka on a strike or 'hartal day' on February 4 ahead of the sentencing, on February 5, of party leader Abdul Quader Mollah. Mollah and five other leaders of the party have been on trial before Dhaka's International Crimes Tribunal, accused of committing atrocities during the 1971 war of secession against Pakistan, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians.
