Language Settings

Language settings help change the languages you see on Facebook.

To access your language settings:

  1. Click at the top right and select Settings
  2. Click Language to see the following options:
    • Show Facebook in this language: This changes the language of Facebook's interface.
    • What language do you want stories to be translated into: This changes the language comments and posts written in another language are translated to. Learn how to translate a post or comment.
    • Which languages do you understand: This controls the languages you don't want to see translation options for. Any comment or post written in these languages won't contain translation options. Learn how to turn off translation options.
    • Which languages do you not want automatically translated: This controls the languages you don't want automatically translated. Any post written in these languages won't automatically translate. Learn how to stop automatic translations.

Translating Posts and Comments

If you don't see translations options below a post or comment written in another language, make sure that translation options aren't turned off for the language the post or comment is written in.

To translate a post or comment written in another language, click See Translation below the post or comment.

To change the language that posts or comments are translated to:

  1. Click at the top right and select Settings
  2. Click Language
  3. Click What language do you want stories to be translated into?
  4. Enter a language and click Save Changes

To turn off translation options for posts or comments written in a specific language:

  1. Click at the top right and select Settings
  2. Click Language
  3. Click Which languages do you understand?
  4. Enter a language and click Save Changes

You won't receive translation options for any post or comment written in the specified language.

A post that receives many translation requests is automatically translated. Learn how to turn off automatic translations.

To stop posts written in another language from being automatically translated:

  1. Click at the top right and select Settings
  2. Click Language
  3. Click Which languages do you not want automatically translated?
  4. Enter a language and click Save Changes

Rating and Reporting Translations

To report a post that was translated into the wrong language:

  1. Go to a post that you want to report
  2. Click Automatically Translated below the post
  3. Click Post wasn't in [Language] in the dropdown menu
  4. Select Ok in the popup menu

When you translate a post, we perform the translation or use an external tool (ex: Bing). You can only rate the quality of a translated post if we performed the translation.

To rate the quality of a translated post:

  1. Find below the translated post
  2. Hover over to view different ratings
  3. Click to save your rating

We use these ratings to improve translations.
