Welcome to the BUSA Website, the home of Higher Education sailing in the UK. I'm Phil Derry, the current chairman of the BUSA committee, and I'd like to tell you a little about BUSA and what we can do for you.
BUSA is the governing body for sailing within Higher Education establishments across the UK. It is affiliated to and supported by the RYA, with whom we work closely to develop, inspire and support the next generation of world-class athletes, while offering the opportunity for new-comers to discover the joy of our sport. In addition BUSA events have British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) recognition, with BUCS points awarded at each of the national competitions.
Throughout the year, we work to further the profile of the sport within BUCS, and provide fantastic competitions in all disciplines of racing. The BUSA season kicks off in November, when the first BUCS points are fought for at the dinghy fleet racing, and culminates in an action-packed Easter vacation with universities doing battle at the team racing and match racing finals, as well as the yachting championships.
BUSA is run by students, for students, and our key focus is always to provide the highest quality competition and best environment for sailing at the university and college level. The Committee is made up of volunteers dedicated to achieving this goal, but needs the continued support, fresh ideas and input of its member clubs to improve. A huge thanks must go to the outgoing Committee of 2013-14 for their enthusiasm and a fantastic year of BUSA fixtures. I'd also like to welcome the new Committee and wish them all good luck for the year to come.
The whole Committee is here to serve you, and any members with suggestions, new ideas or feedback are strongly encouraged to contact us directly through the website or by contacting our full time secretary, Jess Beecher.
Finally, congratulations to all the 2013-14 champions and best of luck to everyone for the season to come, especially our teams representing us at competitions, both nationally and internationally
Have a great year both on and off the water, and I look forward to seeing many of you on the start line throughout the season!
