The benefits of zinc are wide and varied playing an important role in both the maintenance of normal bone health and in supporting the immune system. Zinc is also essential in the synthesis of protein, which is the method by which muscles are constructed.

Zinc is commonly found in high protein food such as meat, fish (in particular shellfish), nuts and seeds. It is one of the most important minerals used by the body.

The unusual dietary patterns of high performance athletes may lead to a suboptimal intake of zinc, particularly in those whose diets include increased carbohydrate intake and a low intake of protein and fat from natural food sources.

Temporary depletions in zinc are not rare with high physical activity, stress and dietary habits all impacting on zinc uptake. If not corrected this depletion can remain for a long time or even deteriorate further. Our bodies do not store zinc, so we rely on external sources for a continuous supply.

Each small, easy to swallow tablet contains 15mg of zinc (150% NRV) in the form of zinc citrate. Our expert nutritionists recommend the use of zinc citrate over other forms of zinc as it is this form that is most readily absorbed by the body. Each tablet also contains 80mg vitamin C (100% NRV) for its complementary action.

Product Origins

Zinc is not easily absorbed in the body unless first attached to another substance. For this reason, we have “chelated” our zinc to citric acid to form zinc citrate. This is manufactured by complete neutralisation of citric acid with a high purity zinc source, followed by precipitation and dehydration. This process creates a temporary increase in the complexity and concentration of zinc within the molecule and hence a higher concentration. Research studies support this form of zinc, showing higher bioavailability of organic compounds such as zinc citrate compared to inorganic forms.

We have consciously chosen a non-GMO source for our zinc citrate and have taken care to ensure that there is a neutral taste without a chalky, bitter or astringent taste.

Our zinc manufacturer operates a comprehensive quality management system which is certified to IS0 9001:2008 and operates to the principles of the ICH guidelines. The facility is regularly audited by the MHRA (and has also been audited by the US FDA). In addition the tablets are manufactured to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and our supplier has British Retail Consortium (BRC) accreditation to the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety.
