May is National Watersports Month

The RYA has joined forces with three other leading watersports organisations to encourage the entire nation to get out on the water this May.

The RYA along with the British Marine Federation (BMF), British Rowing and GoCanoeing, have announced May as National Watersports Month, which was officially launched at the London Boat Show. Canoeing, sailing, rowing, windsurfing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, cruising and more will all be on offer from clubs, centres and marinas across England, Scotland and Wales.

May signifies a great time to kick start a summer of sport and National Watersports Month promises to provide an action-packed schedule of activities across the country including RYA Push the Boat Out events.

Olympic windsurfer Bryony Shaw and canoeing gold medallist Etienne Stott are just two of the athletes who are encouraging the nation to get out on the water in May for National Watersports Month.

RYA Push the Boat Out

Don’t forget the weekend of 17-18 May is RYA Push the Boat Out with clubs, across the UK offering a range of ‘have a go’ and taster sessions for everyone to experience sailing and windsurfing.

If your club is holding an open day on Push the Boat Out weekend, the RYA will provide free promotional materials including postcards badges, pens coasters and keyrings. Resources will also be available on the RYA website including advice on how to run an open day, promote your event and downloadable PTBO posters.

By registering your event, people visiting the RYA website to look up where to go sailing during the weekend, will be able to find all the information they need to visit your club.

The RYA will also be promoting what is set to be a fantastic weekend, regionally and nationally, linking in with National Watersports Month.  Please ensure we know what you have planned so we can help publicise your event through RYA website and social media channels as well as the local, national and trade press.

Bart’s Bash

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation is planning a monster sized attempt to set a new Guinness World Record with 'Bart's Bash', a mass participation club race taking place on the 21st September 2014.

“We know that pretty much every club has a race on Sunday morning, with all kinds of boats taking part, the goal is to get everyone participating together to create one big event race” Jez Payne from 'The Bart Project' commented.

Bart’s bash could be the perfect goal for your club's new members this season.
