ROY explained, 'With the wind forecast to drop off for the afternoon it was necessary to ensure that all races ran like clockwork. The Black Flag was flown from the start however the strong tide did help hold the fleet back from the line for most starts.'

Cork's Katie TINGLE sailed a great first race of the day to achieve a third place in an exceptionally closely fought contest, which was ultimately won by 15 year old Charlotte GREENHALGH from Lancashire. Interestingly enough Katie, previously a star Optimist sailor, was hotly pursued by her ISA 420 Girls Squad crewmate Maeve LEONARD (6th), also from the Royal Cork Yacht Club.

Spain's Olimpia Corral BOSCH, who won race six, must be delighted with her bullet as it brings her into ninth place overall. However fleet leader Serena de LUCA (ITA), despite showing relatively poor results today still holds an eleven point lead.

Con MURPHY, National Yacht Club Commodore noted, 'The six years of planning for this Championship was obvious today with flawless race execution - all races starting on time -thrilling close racing and a rapid results service to keep competitors fully in the picture'

With 262 young competitors all under 18 years, many sailors have travelled to Dun Laoghaire with their parents and siblings. When planning the logistics for this event the National Yacht Club looked to provide that little extra. Last night they ran a mini regatta in the evening using Radio Controlled Lasers, which brought an entry of 100 competitors, both young and old. With the prize being a radio controlled Laser the final race-off will create great interest.

About the European Laser 4.7 Championship 2007

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st male and female competitor as the Laser 4.7 Male/Female European Champions 2007. As a result there will be a separate scoring and starts for male and female competitors.

All female competitors will display a red diamond on their sail. The large male entry will be divided into 3 groups with results combined at the end of each race. Furthermore their races will be divided into a qualifying and a final series of races.

Racing will take place on Dublin Bay, with twelve races scheduled for all fleets from Sun 22nd to Fri 27th July. If sufficient races are sailed one or more discards will take effect. A practice race is scheduled for Sat.

Laser 4.7

The Laser 4.7 rig is ideal for younger and lighter sailors and acts as a stepping stone before progressing on to the bigger Radial and Standard rig. The Laser 4.7 uses a short pre-bent lower mast to maintain a balanced helm and a sail area that is 35% smaller than the Laser Standard, an Olympic class boat. One of ISAF's fastest growing youth classes, the Laser 4.7 is now spread throughout the world in over 55 countries and 6 continents.
