Into Day 2 of the Middle Sea Race, one of the leading offshore races in the Mediterreane, the those sheltering from the wind hope for an improvement in conditions before continuing the race.

Durlindana reported electrical and mainsail problems but intend to continue the race if they manage to repair these faults. Victoria Moody retired to Porto Palo with mainsail problems.

The Middle Sea Race takes part in the deep azure waters of the Mediterranean. The boats are fairly divided into classes and divisions of different designs and ratings and they compete for many highly coveted trophies. There is also a class for the traditional classic hulls.

The race is held over a six hundred and twenty mile course starting from Malta, sailing northwards to the Straits of Messina, further north around the island volcano of Stromboli, then westwards between two of the Egadi Islands, southwards for Pantelleria and Lampedusa and finally eastwards to Malta.

The first three boats are currently:

3. PRIMADONNA (GBR) - Chris Bull

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
