The 2011 World Champions Celebrate

Platu 25 World Championship
Ghmunden-Traunsee Lake, Austria

After nine very competitive races, the new Platu 25 World Champion is the Italian EUK II Monella Vagabonda owned by Francesco Lanera and helmed by Sandro Montefusco, with the Mark Sigrist (SUI) as a tactician.
This original Pugliese-Swiss team is the new World Champion although it's the first time that the crew had raced together. EUK II lead the general ranking list since day one of the Championship.

Sandro Montefusco commented "Today we had two fantastic races with wind blowing from 16 to 20 knots. We didn't expect such a perfect weather after the uncertain conditions of the last days. We started well in the first race today and we kept the advantage until the end. In the second race everything was more complicated . We started late and we got wrong in some wind shifts . There was a moment in which we were fifteenth. But we didn't lose our concentration and we could gain positions step by step ".

Francesco Lanera, owner of EUK II Monella Vagabonda was very moved. He laughed and then cried and then laughed again: "All of us hoped for the victory. There was Sandro Montefusco, who is a guarantee but I don't get used to such a big emotion. It's simply fantastic and it's difficult to believe. I thank all those who helped us and contributed to this day. Family, friends and sponsors. Our team faced in a very determined way the difficult weather conditions in the last days".

The struggle has always been behind Euk II Monella Vagabonda, among the Spanish and German boats. Until the end the second step of the podium was uncertain. GAES Mundo Marino is officially second but it wasn't sure until the end because of a protest by Bribon- Movistar that could have cost a lot for their compatriots. Francisco Sánchez helm on GAES Mundo Marino wanted to express his satiscation: "We did not expect this result, we're very happy with this second place in Gmunden. It was a tricky championship with difficult wind conditions for all. We tried to be as consistent as possible and had three wins. The team is very satisfied right now. It was an incredible place to race and I'm sure that we will keep a very fond memory of Gmunden"

In third position was the German team on Falkone owned by Cornelius Heeschen and helmed by Falko Knabe. Ole Von Studnitz , Falkone's tactician said, "We are more than satisfied because we are Corinthians, not professional sailor. Our team started sailing just one year ago. The boat also is bring new and we bought it last year. It was a great Championship with a high technical level. The Spanish boats were really very competitive and also some German crews were very prepared and experienced. So it's simply super for us to have won. For our team is a great beginning".

Final Results After Nine Races:
1 - EUZ II MONELLA VIZIATA - 37 points
2 - GAES Mundo Marino - 51 points
3 - FALKONE - 61 points
