Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2004
Gdnyia

The final Notice of Race for the XXXIV Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship has now been published. Hosted by the Gdynia Sport Centre on behalf of the Polish Yachting Association, the organisers cordially invite all ISAF MNAs to participate.
The pinnacle event for sailors who have not attained their nineteenth birthday before the end of the year, the event is open to one team per event per nation. The events and equipment for 2004 are:

Single-handed Dinghy Boys - Laser
Single-handed Dinghy Girls - Laser Radial
Double-handed Dinghy Boys - 420
Double-handed Dinghy Girls - 420
Windsurfing Boys - Mistral
Windsurfing Girls - Mistral
Multihull Open - Hobie 16 Race Speed

The Organising Committee will supply all equipment for events excluding the Mistral, and sponsors of the event include Hobie Cat, Nautivela and Laser.

Entries are invited from any MNA in good standing with ISAF, who may enter a team in any or all of the above events by submitting the entry form, which may be found on the event website, to the organisers by the entry deadline of 1 April 2004.

The event itself runs from 8-17 July 2004. The first two days are taken up with measurement for the Mistral sailors, team leaders meetings, boat allocation for the remaining events, competitor's briefings, and a briefing for all competitors on the interpretation and application of the all-important Rule 42.

The opening ceremony and traditional mixing of the waters ceremony will happen on 9 July and racing gets underway on 10. 12 races are scheduled for the event of which five must be sailed to constitute a series. The traditional lay-day in the middle of the regatta is on 13 July. The closing ceremony is on 16 July, following just one race on the final day.

Following a hugely successful event in Madeira last year at which the organisers and ISAF welcomed no fewer than 56 nations and 251 competitors, 2004 is set to be another fantastic and hard fought event to decide the best youth sailors of 2004.
