BMW Round Ireland Race
Round Ireland

After one of the toughest races in its 24-year history, Eamon CROSBIE and the crew of Calyx Voice & Data were confirmed overall winners of the BMW Round Ireland Race.
"We had a great crew that never gave up, day and night, constantly changing gears as the conditions changed," Crosbie said in Wicklow today. (Thursday). "I feel tired but elated and very happy that the crew exceeded all my expectations in a heavy offshore environment this proves they¹re not just good dinghy sailors."

Along with most of the fleet, the Dun Laoghaire boat endured winds of more than 40 knots as well short, steep waves. The tidal gates on the north coast produced opposing tidal currents of up to four knots.

The 32-footer was built in Bray, Co. Wicklow 12 months ago and has been in winning form since culminating in this victory, in particular, beating boats up to twice its size.

The eight-man crew included: Eamon CROSBIE (Skipper), Ian MOORE (Navigator), Alan CROSBIE, David CROSBIE, Ross Nolan, Jonny COATE, Gus KELLY and Stefan HYDE.

Meanwhile, eight boats are still at sea and competing for places within fleet divisions. Overall standings for the entire fleet of 47 starters will not be confirmed until the last boat reaches Wicklow tomorrow (Friday). A formal prize-giving and reunion evening for this Fáilte Ireland supported event will take place in October.
