It is with great sadness that ISAF advises the passing away of ISAF Council Member Alexander SOBOLEV, aged 61 years, after a tragic car accident on Wednesday 27 August 2003.
Alexander has been involved with ISAF since the mid 1970's, first becoming a member of the Youth Sailing, Centreboard and Mulithull committees,

Youth Sailing Committee - 1976 to 1992

Racing Rules Committee - 1978 to 1982
Multihull Committee - 1976 to 1980
Events Committee - 1994 to 1998
Council Member - 1998 to date

As an ISAF International Judge from 1981, Alexander officiated at many international regattas around the world, including world and continental championships.

Prior to becoming involved in the administration of the sport, Alexander's sailing career was primarily focused on the Flying Dutchman, being a member of the national team from 1968 to 1972. Alexander then moved into the coaching side of the sport, and was head coach of the Russian Navy Yacht Club from 1972-1992, and during the period 1985-1988 was the Olympic Team Coach.

Involved with the Russian Sailing Federation for many years, Alexander was the 1st Vice President from 1996-2002.
