Russians lead after round robin

GrandOptical Challenge Cup 2002 - Optimist Team Racing

Taganrog YC of Russia lead the rankings after the round-robin phase of the GrandOptical Cup for inter-club team racing was completed today. They won 10 out of the 12 races sailed in the first phase of the competition.

They will be joined in the semi-finals tomorrow by Piran YC (SLO), Royal Lymington YC (GBR) both with 9 wins out of 12, and Hoorn YC (NED) with 8 wins out of 12.

The Russians, from the north-eastern corner of the Black Sea, represent one of the magnificent yacht clubs of pre-revolutionary Russia founded in 1908.

Tomorrow sees the semi-final matches taking place along with matches to determine positions from fifth to twelfth.
