Financial Assistance Offered To Top Olympic Class Sailors

Sail Auckland has allocated 8,000€ to help four or more top international Olympic class sailors to come to next year's ISAF Grade 2 Sail Auckland Regatta, which takes place from 2-6 February 2006.

Top Sailors from the Laser, Laser Radial, RS:X, 470, Finn, 49er and Tornado classes should contact Tom MACKY, Chairman Sail Auckland Regatta Inc.,for more information if they are interested and would like to apply for financial assistance to come to New Zealand. Sail Auckland can also provide assistance to obtain good accommodation and charter boats if required.

Interested sailors should write giving information on their sailing achievements in top international Olympic competition, whether they would be coming with other sailors, whether they have training partners in New Zealand and whether they would be interested in taking part in regattas and or training programmes with New Zealand Olympic class sailors before or after Sail Auckland.

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
