'The Oryx Quest is a front-runner - a first of its kind - involving people with dreams and determination, and who seek to challenge what has not been achieved before,' said Jorgen AMUNDSEN, Founder and President of Amundsen Oslo and a relative of the late Roald Amundsen. 'With our proven track-record of creating high-quality timepieces for pioneers in polar expeditions, the Oryx Quest offers us an opportunity to subject our products to the rigorous demands of the yachting industry. We are very excited to be the official timekeeper for this inspirational race.'

Contested by the largest and fastest offshore racing yachts in history, the Oryx Quest 2005 fleet consists of David SCULLYS'S Cheyenne, Tony BULLIMORE'S Daedalus, Brian THOMPSON'S Qatar 2006 and Olivier DE KERSAUSON'S Geronimo. The boats depart Qatar at 14:00 on 5th February 2005 and race across the Indian Ocean, into the Southern Ocean, and around the Antarctic before navigating the infamous Cape Horn and heading into the South Atlantic. After passing the Cape of Good Hope the fleet will turn north-east, round the holiday island of Mauritius then back to the finish line in Doha.

Amundsen Oslo has an agreement with the World Sailing Speed Record Council to provide trophies for the non-stop solo round-the-world records from both East to West and West to East. The Oryx Quest 2005 is the first around-the-world race for which Amundsen Oslo is the official timekeeper.
