Nautical Mile Records Ratified

The World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) has ratified Finian MAYNARD's (BVI) and Valerie GHIBAUDO's (FRA) Outright Nautical Mile and Outright Women's Nautical Mile Records

In newsletter 103 the Secretary to the WSSRC, John REED announced the ratification of the following records:

Record: Outright Nautical Mile
Skipper: Finian MAYNARD (IVB)
Dates: 15 October 2005
Venue: Walvis Bay, Namibia
Time: 1 minute and 10.12 seconds
Average speed: 39.97 knots

Previously, the record was held by Bjorn DUNKERBECK (DEN) at 34.44 knots

Record: Outright Women's Nautical Mile
Skipper: Valerie GHIBAUDO (FRA)
Dates: 15 October 2005
Venue: Walvis Bay, Namibia
Time: 1 minute and 46.92 seconds
Average speed: 33.69 knots

Previously, the record was held by Britt DUNKERBECK (ESP) at 23.84 knots

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
