Rutgerson Deck Hardware Australian Match Racing Championship 2005
Sydney, Australia

The first day of the ISAF Grade 3 Rutgerson Deck Hardware Australian Match Racing Championship at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) in Sydney, Australia was a great success, with 13 flights (39 matches) completed. Seve JARVIN was the top performer of the day with seven wins and one loss, from an OCS in the final race.
Equal second is Michael DUNSTAN and Katie SPITHILL, each with six wins and two losses. It is difficult at this stage to determine absolute placings, as not all teams have completed the same number of races.

Wind on Pittwater today was perfect for racing, with steady breeze up to 15 knots. Conditions were so good that racing continued for as long as light was available.

RPAYC's new Force 24s proved popular and JARVIN said he thoroughly enjoyed sailing the new boats. He reported they were slower to manoeuvre than the Ellliotts he is used to sailing and it made for interesting racing.

Racing is conducted in pools and today a round robin was completed for each group, followed by three flights after the pools were mixed. Tomorrow seven flights will be held to finish the round robin and if time permits semi finals will begin. Remaining semi finals and finals will be contested on Sunday.
