Right around the world a massive sailing celebrating is taking place - have you registered your club yet?

"I am very proud to be President of the International Sailing Federation as we celebrate 100 years. What is evident is that the past one hundred years mark a period of vibrant and exciting growth for sailing. A period when the spirit of solidarity, friendship and passion for sailing has prevailed over borders, religions, genders and cultures. This weekend of 1-2 September, the "Sail the World" celebrations capture the very spirit of sailing. I am delighted at the number of events, clubs and classes all over the world partnering with ISAF as we join together to "Sail the World."'

Singapore Sailing

SingaporeSailing's Secretary-General Edwin LOW and Executive Director Andrew SANDERS flagged off the race off Singapore's National Sailing Centre at 14:30. The sailors took the opportunity today to bring their family members and friends out sailing, followed by cleaning up the nearby shores and seas.

The younger Optimist sailors were also treated to rides on the 420, 470 and Lasers. Family members on shore did their part by preparing the food for the potluck and bbq session for those who had a hard day's sailing and cleaning!

Napier Sailing Club, Napier, New Zealand

The Napier Sailing Club, in Napier, New Zealand celebrated the International Sailing Federation's 100th Birthday with a champagne breakfast and regatta on the morning of Saturday 1 September 2007.

On the first day of spring in the Southern Hemisphere, a hearty barbecue breakfast at 07:30 was enjoyed by over 120 Club members and guests and the ISAF Centenary was toasted. Sausages, bacon & eggs were followed by the briefing for first races to be held to mark the ISAF Sail the World Day.

The sky was a perfect blue, there was snow on the hills to the west of Hawke's Bay and a light 10 knot northerly breeze filled in as fifty boats milled around the Inner Harbour alongside the Clubhouse in preparation for the rally start to the race at 09:55 (New Zealand Standard Time - 12 hours ahead of Universal Time).

Optimist and Starling dinghies raced in the channels alongside the Napier Sailing Club site, while the larger boats, including Lasers, Flying Fifteens, International Fourteens, trailer yachts and sports boats headed out the Scapa Flow to race in Hawke Bay in good viewing distance from the pine tree clad Ahuriri foreshore.

The Napier Sailing Club is one of the eastern-most in the world and this event was almost certainly one of the first events held to celebrate the Centenary of ISAF. Founded in 1891, the Club is also one of the oldest yachting and boating clubs in New Zealand. This has certainly been another memorable event in the Club's long and eventful history.

Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme team celebrate ISAF Sail the World Weekend.

The Youth Training Programme have had their briefing for the day's racing, before heading out onto the Auckland Harbour for their mini 'Sail the World' match racing regatta! The RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme consists of 34 young sailors all under 20 years of age. The RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme was established in 1987 and this year is celebrating it's 20th year.

The programme operates an eleven month season each year, during which the programme completes 3 sections of keelboat training, beginning with drills training, then fleet racing, followed by match racing.

The programme owns and operates ten Elliott 6m light displacement keelboats which are sailed with teams of three (helm, main & bow) and for the women's team's with 4 crew (helm, main, trim, bow).

This is their first weekend of match racing!

At the end of today's mini-match racing regatta all youths will be presented with an ISAF Sail the World Certificate!
