BoatU.S. Santa Maria Cup 2006
Annapolis, USA

Ten women's match race teams have descended upon Annapolis, USA and the Eastport Yacht Club to contest this year's ISAF Grade 1 BoatU.S. Santa Maria Cup. A top field sees skippers from Australia and Europe line up against the North American challenge, with an interesting twist as double World Champion Sally BARKOW (USA) switches places on the boat to crew for Deb CAPOZZI (USA).

Racing begins today in J/22's with Christelle PHILIPPE (FRA), Giulia CONTI (ITA), Lorenza MARIANI (ITA), Jen PROVAN (CAN) and Katie SPITHILL (AUS) as the international teams. From the USA are 2003 winner and 2002 World Champion Liz BAYLIS, 2004 Olympian Carol CRONIN, Katy PILLEY-LOVELL, Jo Ann FISHER and CAPOZZI.

Over the next three days Principal Race Officer Mark MURPHY expects to run over 90 races, constituting a double round robin. The final four will move forward to the semi-finals and then the finals. Chief Umpire, Karst HUT (NED) and his international team will be closely watching the proceedings.

The Eastport Yacht Club race committee will be sending results in from the water after each flight is completed, so to follow along as these teams compete, check out the event website at - www.santamariacup.org.
