Anne Claire Le Berre (FRA) Wins XII Women's Match Race Criterium

XII International Women's Match Race Criterium

Calpe, Spain

Anne-Clare Le Berre (FRA) wins the ISAF Grade 1 XII Women's Match Race Criterium in Calpe Spain defeating Tamara Echegoyen (ESP) in the final.

Tamara Echegoyen (ESP) had dominated the qualifying series with an unbeaten record through both round robins and the semi-final. Seeing off Camilla Ulrikkeholm 3-0 in the Semi-Final Echegoyen was all set to take her first ISAF Grade 1 victory. Anne-Claire Le berre (FRA) had a tougher contest to reach the final, eventually beating Silvia Roca mata (ESP) 3-2.

The final was extremely close with Echegoyen taking the first victory after Le Berre received a penatly but even after a good start could not hang on to make the score 2-0. At one point each the third match went to Echegoyen before Le Berre picked up the fourth to tie the score at 2-2.

A tense fifth and final match eventually went to Le Berre who took the overall win.

The petit-final between Silvia Roca mata (ESP) and Camilla Ulrikkeholm (DEN) was a first to two point and, as in the final, the Spanish skipper took the first point. Ulrikkelholm claimed the next two matches and with them the bronze medal.

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
