2010 ISAF Annual Conference Underway Tomorrow
2010 ISAF Annual Conference
2010 ISAF Annual Conference, Athens

Athens, Greece

The 2010 ISAF Annual Conference kicks off tomorrow (5 November) with the Commissions of the International Sailing Federation reporting on their activities for the past year and advising on their particular areas of expertise.
As opposed to the ISAF Committees, who deal principally with policy and strategy over a particular area of the sport, the Commissions role is to provide the Executive with recommendations relating to the specific areas of their expertise. The Executive in turn take these views in to consideration in the recommendations they pass on to other ISAF Committees and ultimately the ISAF Council itself.

Six Commissions, will meet tomorrow: the Coaches Commission, International Regulations Commission, Medical Commission, Multihull Commission, Olympic Classes Commission and Athletes' Commission.

With the future direction of Olympic sailing being the topic of debate at this year's Conference it will feature highly in discussions at Multihull, Coaches, Olympic Classes and Athletes Commissions. The members of the Coaches and Athletes' Commission are all currently actively involved in Olympic sailing so will have an invaluable input in expresses the voice of the sailors in to the debate.

The International Regulations Commission is a great example of some of the lesser known but just as important work that goes on throughout the Conference, The Commission advises the Executive on governmental regulation which affects the sport, and plays a key role in ensuring the sport's and sailor's interests are represented. In their meeting tomorrow the Commission address a wide range of national and international issues ranging from the environment to piracy.

Also on the agenda for tomorrow is the first of ISAFs seminars, which starts with In-House Certification session, but before hard work starts in earnest tomorrow, this evening is a chance catch up with old friends and build valuable new connections with the worldwide sailing family.
