The event is being sailed in J/80s, and the opening day saw racing commence in a strong south-easterly breeze which dropped through the day.

It was Malin MILBOURN (SWE) who came out on top on countback with five wins and one loss after 11 flights were sailed of the opening round robin. Betsy ALLISON (USA) also had a good day scoring five wins and one loss. The top sailor in the ISAF Women's Match Race Rankings, Sweden's Marie BJORLING lies third with four wins and one loss.

The current World Champion Liz BAYLIS (USA) who is sailing in Sundsvall for the first time had a shaky start taking only two wins and four losses. The first round robin should be completed today when six teams will proceed to the quarter-finals on Friday.

A debrief held after racing so that the competitors could ask questions about the days decisions was well attended. When asked about a situation where she received a penalty Malin said "Sometimes it is hard to be a Skipper". The penalty was given to her whilst she headed to the leeward mark and had to give room to an inside boat as well as avoid two starboard tack boats coming upwind. Caught between a rock and a hard place she tried her best to squeeze through but failed. An interesting lesson to all!
