Strathfield, Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race
Pittwater

The largest offshore race in Australia now its 23rd year,
Strathfield Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race starts Friday January 2nd at 1pm.

Last year, the race record was smashed by the high tech sixty footer Bob OATLEY'S Wild Oats. She beat Russell ROWE and his mates on Ludde INGVALL'S Nicorette/Travelex by more than an hour.

She could again smash the record, of 18 hours, 18 minutes for the 224nm race.

But Ludde INGVALL'S Nicorette, having retired from the Hobart race is now back in Sydney, undergoing repairs.

Faster than ever with her canting keel, she will be on the startline on Friday.

It will be a highly competitive racing fleet, the largest IRC fleet ever assembled in Australia and amongst the handicap favourites is Stephen DAVID'S 'Joe', with a world class crew including renowned navigator Adrienne Cahalan, who was a nominee for the second consecutive year for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards 2003.

With the biggest offshore fleet of the season including a bunch of identical Sydney 38's, there is sure to be lots of action on the startline.

There are a large number of stories and background information on the race website www.rpayc.com.au There is plenty of information for media use, covering the racing and importantly also the activities in Coffs Harbour.
