ISAF Training Scholarship

Egyptian sailor Ahmed Samir has been selected to attend the 2012 ISAF Training Scholarship, an eight week course which starts in September at the Rockley Academy in the UK.
Samir was identified as a potential candidate by the Egyptian Sailing and Waterski Federation and was successfully allocated funding by Egypt's National Olympic Committee following discussions with ISAF and Olympic Solidarity.

Mr Mohamed Essam Farid, Executive Director of the Egyptian Federation said: 'Keen to take the advantage of the Training Scholarships provided by ISAF, the Egyptian Sailing Federation decided to nominate Mr. Ahmed Samir to participate in the course."

Continuing he explained why this was such an important step for the development of the sport in Egypt: 'Such Scholarships will contribute to the preparation of a New Qualified Generation of Trainers for deployment of Sailing in Egypt through management of a successful Sail Training programme within the Egyptian Sailing Federation.'

The eight week Course has been tailor-made to work on the areas that create the biggest barriers in setting up and maintaining a National Sail Training Programme. By continuously adapting the course to suit the varied needs of all Member National Authorities (MNAs) involved, ISAF have been able to fine tune the contents to give maximum benefits for every MNA, no matter how large or small the development plan might be.

Dan Jaspers, ISAF Training and Development Manager said of this latest application: 'We are very happy to welcome the Egyptian Federation onto the 2012 Scholarship and are looking forward to learning how Sail Training can be developed in Egypt and how ISAF can help. This recent application is the first of a number of 2012 applications we have been working on and represents a huge amount of support from the MNAs involved. We thank them for valuing the programmes that ISAF is providing and look towards an exciting future.'
