The Paralympic Pathway 

The Paralympic pathway provides opportunities for disabled sailors to develop their existing racing/sailing talents, helping sailors strive to become the best-of-the-best and become part of the British Paralympic Sailing Team.

The RYA's ambition is to develop the best Paralympic sailing team in the world.  To achieve this we need sailors who:

• can sail to a standard that ensures that they can sail around a course in all conditions and demonstrate a high degree of "control" of a boat at all times.
• must be able to "classify" under the IFDS International Classification rules, for the current Paralympic sailing classes.
• understand and are prepared to commit to a training program, to help them reach their full potential within the sport.  Initially one session per month.

Whilst we welcome new people to our programs, we are unable at Paralympic level, to teach people to sail.  We therefore recommend that they develop their cores skills either through an RYA Sailability Centre or RYA Recognised Training Centre that can help new participants develop the core skills necessary to race.

How to get involved in Paralympic Sailing

The three current Paralympic classes are the single-person keelboat (2.4mR), two-person keelboat requiring a mixed crew (SKUD18) and the three-person keelboat (Sonar). All three of these are technical boats and require people joining the program to have good core sailing skills.
