2015 ISAF Youth World Championships
Langkawi, Malaysia

Team Finland is sending their largest ever team to Langkawi, Malaysia in December for the ISAF Youth World Championships.
The 10-strong team has been chosen from results and the qualification process which involved the Europeans and Worlds in different locations all around Europe during the summer. The 10 sailors who will represent Team Finland are Sirre Kronlöff, Veera Hokka, Saara Tukiainen, Emilia Winqvist, Suvi-Tuuli Wikström, Alexander Grönblom, Martin Mikkola, Anton Eklund, Jacob Eklund, Oskari Muhonen, and they will attend with Coach Vili Kaijansinkko.

Here is some information on all the sailors so you can get to know them before the World Championships.

Sirre Kronlöff & Veera Hokka. 29er Female
Sirre , the skipper and Veera, the crew. Both started sailing with Optis, but Sirre stayed while Veera moved to the Zoom8 class. In the summer of 2014, Veera was looking for a partner to sail with, and that's when they started sailing together. They have been sailing together since.
Their team motto is: "if everything goes wrong go right."

Alexander Grönblom & Martin Mikkola. 29er Male
Alex is the skipper and Martin is the crew. Both boys have sailed Optimist together. After Optimist they sailed Byte for a short time. Martin has also been sailing Laser 4.7 and Radial. They have sailed together for two years and have enjoyed it a lot. They are also 2015 Finnish Champions.

Oskari Muhonen. Laser Radial Male
Oskari began sailing at age 9 with optimist, but got too big for it pretty quickly. At age 13 he started sailing Europe class and then moved into Laser Radial. This year he has also sailed Laser Standard. Last year Oskari participated in ISAF Youth Worlds in Tavira, so this will be his second time participating. This year he was fifth in Radial Youth Europeans so his main goal is to leave Malaysia with a medal. Besides sailing he plays trombone and sometimes basketball and floor ball.
Oskari's motto is: "If you can dream it, you can do it."

Suvi-Tuuli Wikström. Laser Radial Female
Suvi was six years old when she first stepped into an Optimist. She jumped from Optimist to Laser when she was only 12 years old because there weren't any other Optimist sailors left in her club. First she sailed 4.7 and two years ago she moved into Laser Radial.
Suvi's motto in her life is: "Play like you're the best, but practice like you're in the second place."

Saara Tukiainen & Emilia Winqvist. 420 Female
Saara and Emilia have been sailing together for almost two summers. Before 420 they have sailed Optimist and Zoom8. They will continue to train in Finland despite the cold and will also have one training clinic and regatta in Italy before their journey to Malaysia. Their target is to finish the ISAF Youth Worlds in the top 15.

Jacob Eklund & Anton Eklund. 420 Male
These brothers began sailing at a very young age. Sailing has always been a big thing in their family. They first sailed Optimist and then moved to Zoom8. In 2014 Anton started a one-year campaign in the 420 class with his friend Sam Stenman aiming for the ISAF Youth Worlds. After one year the challenge of living in different countries made the partnership difficult, and they went their separate ways. At the same time, Jakob was also thinking on where to go next since he had gotten too old for Opti. It turned out to be perfect timing and so the brothers decided to do a similar project as Anton and Sam had done, with the ISAF Youth Worlds as their main goal.
Their team motto is: "We never lose. We either win or we learn."
