BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is holding what is expected to be one of its biggest military parades ever to mark the founding of the country's ruling party.
After heavy overnight rain delayed the starting of the proceedings, tanks, armoured vehicles and ballistics hardware are being displayed in the city's Kim Il-Sung Square, with thousands of marching troops for escorts. DPRK leader Kim Jong-un is presiding over the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Moments earlier, thousands of troops in tight formations marched into the Kim Il-Sung square. As with similar displays in the past, the event is being closely watched for glimpses of any new hardware that might signal a step forward in the state's military development.
