The RYA Dayskipper Theory & Practical Combined Course

This Dayskipper Course from Brighton includes RYA Day Skipper Theory and RYA Day Skipper Practical. This a consecutive 9 day course. The first 2 days will involve Day Skipper Theory, the next 5 days will involve Day Skipper Practical and the final 2 days will involve Day Skipper Theory.

The Day Skipper Theory – 4 Days:  This course is a comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers and is an essential preparation for our RYA Day Skipper Practical course. This course is run from our centre in Brighton Marina.

RYA Dayskipper Practical Course – 5 Consecutive Days: On the RYA Day Skipper Practical Course you will gain further experience through planning and completing passages, including a night sail. You will also gain your ICC (International Certificate of Competence). You will also practice lots of close quarter handling skills and mooring in a range of marinas – offering more interesting ways to tie up for the night! You will stay aboard the yacht and depending on weather conditions you will be sailing across to France or heading towards the solent. You will be staying in different ports to give you as much sailing experience as possible whilst covering all the syllabus of RYA Competent Crew. Either direction you will have a fantastic sailing course, visiting great locations with our experienced and professional skippers.

The Day Skipper Theory course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate safely around familiar waters by day. It is a comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers and is an essential preparation for our RYA Day Skipper Practical course. The Day Skipper Theory Course is divided into three weekends or you can complete as a combined course with the Dayskipper Theory & Practical Combined.

On the RYA Day Skipper Practical course you will gain further experience through planning and completing passages, including a night sail. This course is run Monday to Friday or over weekends.

Zero to Day Skipper Training Course

Our training schedule is extremely flexible. You can complete your Zero to Dayskipper package within two weeks or over a year. We have courses running during the weekdays or over weekends. You can also complete your RYA VHF Radio Course online.

On the Zero to Dayskipper you will first embark upon your Competent Crew Course. On the Competent Crew you will learn about general life onboard the boat and how to work as a member of the crew. You will gain a full understanding into all the workings of a boat from coming along sides, reefing the sails in stronger winds, sailing to sail sets and compass courses. The Competent Crew Course will also prepare you for your Dayskipper Course. The Dayskipper Course entails theory and practice. The theory is a perquisite to the practical course and it works on on the navigation so that you will be ready to skipper a short passage with an instructor on hand to give tuition, advice and ensure your personal safety. The Dayskipper course will teach you the knowledge needed to skipper a yacht on shorter, coastal cruises during daylight.

Our Boats and Location:

We run our practical courses on our two performance yachts: Our Beneteau First 35 or our NEW Beneteau Oceanis 41 with highly experienced, qualified, professional and friendly instructors. Brighton, Gosport (and Barcelona) are renowned hotspots for your sailing experience. On your practical courses you will be staying aboard your yacht and visiting The Solent – World renowned mecca for sailing with its picturesque coastline and wonderful villages and mooring points or you will be on an adventure to France – So don’t forget your passport!
