With entries already approaching 1000 boats from 75 countries, it will be an exceptional regatta and Mundo Vela are doing everything possible to ensure its success.

In 1999 Melbourne hosted the ISAF Joint World Championships of Olympic Classes. The Aussies made a commitment to make this event the premier ISAF Class Event in the World and they delivered. All ISAF Olympic Classes, except the Star, accepted the invitation and it was a great success and the sailors loved the interaction with the other classes.

Melbourne knew how to promote the event and the sailing journalists who came from all over the world were very supportive and made positive recommendations for the future.

At the Closing Ceremony, the Premier of the State of Victoria said: 'Economically the 1999 Sail Melbourne was more beneficial than either their F1 Race or the Australian Open Tennis and would the sailors come back to Melbourne again soon!'

What a recommendation for the future of this high-profile ISAF World Championship event!!

ISAF solicited bids for the 2003 Championship, which in the future will be named the ISAF World Cup of Olympic Classes, and nine European cities asked to be considered. All proposals were excellent, but Cadiz was chosen above the other bids.

Cadiz was selected as the facilities were excellent and the support of Cadiz, Andalusia and Spain was clearly solid, and has continued to be so.




ISAF has been working constantly with the Organizing Committee and they have lived up to their commitments beyond all expectations. Cadiz is intent on promoting Sailing Worldwide and have engaged major TV capabilities and will ensure the media are properly accommodated. The Tourism Boards of Cadiz, Andalusia, and Spain have committed major funds to ensure the Championship's success. They have also ensured that the Olympic Classes are compensated for their involvement. The technical support of the Real Federacion Espanola de Vela (RFEV) has ensured that everything will be to the highest possible standard.

With Olympic qualification and World Championship titles on offer, together with the overall nation trophy for the President of the IOC Cup, the 2003 Championship will be a major focus and promotion opportunity for the sport.

ISAF is gratified that, after the success of Melbourne and with the even higher level of Cadiz, the ISAF World Cup of Olympic Classes will be a premier event for Sailing.
