Organizing Training Events For Your Country

Training and Development News

Training of MNA Instructors and Trainers is the best way of developing the MNA National Training Programme in order to leave a legacy and as ISAF Training and Development Manager Dan Jaspers explains it costs less money than you might think.
ISAF is here to help our Member National Authorities (MNAs). The new programmes and initiatives we have designed are there to help all MNAs achieve their potential. The most common phrases we hear are:

- We find it hard to know where to start! Why is it so difficult?
- We have tried to organize courses in the past but have not succeeded!
- Our country can't afford to run a big programme. We don't have the resources!
- The whole idea of a National Programme sounds like a lot of work…..why is it so confusing?
- We don't see the need for having a training programme when we already have race coaching…Is this not the same thing?
- Our MNA only has four clubs across the whole country and is not looking at developing more…Is this enough?
- We already do it....Are you trying to change everything and make us start again?
- Instructor Training is easy…anyone can do it without attending a workshop!

New Online Resource

Based upon this feedback we have updated the Training and Development area of the ISAF website www.sailing.org/training to include examples of Training Workshops for Instructors and Trainers. Please have a look and send us your feedback.

Olympic Solidarity

With newly identified resources from the Olympic Solidarity department and Sports Department of the IOC, running Training Events at MNA level should never be difficult to organize again. Applications for Olympic Solidarity funding, will need to be signed off by your National Olympic Committee before being sent to Olympic Solidarity in Switzerland. Once successfully received (before the end of this year) the OS team will identify the most deserving recipients and let you know the result. Once approved, you, the MNA gets in contact with ISAF and we'll help organize the event and make it happen.

Learn To Sail

Every MNA has to start somewhere and the perfect way to do so is by getting in touch through the Training and Development Department and letting us know what you are already doing and what the steps are for developing your provision and growing the idea. Not being able to afford to run lots of events is no longer a reason to not get involved. We can help.

For those MNA's that have already got a well established Training Programme in place, we would never expect you to start again after working so hard. What our Learn to Sail Training Programme document serves to do is to help fill in any gaps that might have been identified by you. It is a resource and not a prescriptive manual.

Contact Us

There are many MNAs getting in touch who wish to have ISAF Recognized Training Status in order to be able to show the world that they have an Internationally Significant Programme that is helping many people get into the sport. It is a great tool for revenue generation through designing and selling of your own MNA logbooks, handbooks and certificates. Why not give us a call to discuss the process and request an application form.

The national sailing federations of Great Britain (RYA) and France (FFV) have applied for accreditation and are being inspected this October as part of the Pilot Process, with the U.A.E hosting the first ever ISAF 'Train the Trainers' Workshop in Dubai / Abu Dhabi at the end of this month, to help train those individuals that will manage the National Training Programmes in readiness for 2010 Inspections. They will be joining the likes of Turkey and South Africa as countries with applications pending for next year.

If you are still unsure as to why or how to go about this…..please doesn't hesitate in getting hold of me. I am always here to try and help you through these many exciting new developments.
