11-Metre World Championship
Palm Beach, Sydney

Sydney boat Tempnet has clinched the Corum World 11-Metre sailing championships becoming the first Australian crew to take the prestigious title.
Skippered by Steve MCCONAGHY and crewed by Sydney Hobart winner Michael SPIES, Genevieve WHITE, 10 year old Ethan ATKINS and boat owner Scott MCCONAGHY, Tempnet clinched the title with one race remaining in the series.

The final race off Palm Beach today saw Norwegian boat Bjorknes skippered by Dag USTERAD win ahead of Australian boat Hipsnknees with and another Aussie boat Obsession taking fourth.

McConaghy and his crew on Tempnet took three wins and four second places in the 11 race series to lead at the end of every day of racing in the week long championship conducted out of Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club at Newport on Sydney's Pittwater.

"It is a fantastic feeling to have won the title after such a close and hard fought championship," said Steve McConaghy.
