Steinlager Line 7 Cup Feeder Series
Westhaven

Top two place winners, Cameron Appleton and Jesper Bank , were not available to sail in the Steinlager Line 7 because of their America's Cup commitments.

Therefore it was not until the very end of today's racing that the four competitors that go through to the Regatta proper were decided.

The final placings were not completed until 6.30pm, after significant damage was done to two boats in a collision involving Paulo Cain and Pat Langley earlier in the day, when Cian ploughed into Langley in a port and starboard incident. The jury penalised Paulo Cian half a point.

With the non-availability of Bank and Appleton, Ed Baird goes through to the Steinlager Line 7 Regatta on Wednesday as the top seed with Andy Green, Paulo Cian and Ian Walker joining him.

Points leader Ed Baird said that the day's racing was completed in the best and most fair conditions of the series.

"However, they were quite challenging, with strong breezes and frequent rain squalls".

"The race management team did a great job in getting two round robins in over just two days as only two races were held on the first day due to the very light winds".

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's Event Director, Harold Bennett said the feeder series was a tough competition and a great credit to the competitors for their patience in allowing the race committee to complete the double round robin.

The four skippers who go through to the Steinlager Line 7 Regatta round out a very competitive field of twelve top class international skippers.

The skippers for the Steinlager Line 7 Cup, the fourth event in the 2001/2002 Swedish Match Tour, are:

Magnus Holmberg
Peter Holmberg
Jess Gram Hansen
Dean Barker
Luc Pillot
Gavin Brady
Rod Davis
Ken Read
Ed Baird
Andy Green
Paulo Cian
Ian Walker

Racing will start on Wednesday around 10am, and the finals will take place on Sunday 24 March.
