This time around the Melbourne sailor will be accompanied by a young crew, including his brother, aboard a 54ft timber schooner called Kijana.

The yacht is a 100-year-old design that was launched only eight years ago. Arthritis prevented the former owner-builder from sailing his masterpiece but it will live on in the hands of Jesse and his crew.

They will produce a 13-part TV series as the "Journey of Kijana" takes them to Papua New Guinea, the Spice Islands of Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. They will then journey across Africa, through Tanzania and The Congo.

From there it's off to South America and the mighty Amazon, then to the USA, the Caribbean, the Galapagos Islands and back across the Pacific to Australia.

It comes two years after Jesse became the youngest ever sailor to complete a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation, an achievement for which he recently received a Medal of the Order of Australia.

Kijana will depart the Australian Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour at 1pm. The AYF will be there to wave them off.
