Rosemount Farr 40 Regatta
Sydney

After a delayed start due to light and shifting breezes, Neville Crichton, owner skipper of Team Shockwave, has won the Rosemount Farr 40 OD Regatta.

Neville Crichton, CEO of Ateco Limited, importers of cars such as Alfa Romeo, was presented with his 'trophy', - his designated weight under the One Design Rules, 95kg of the sponsor's product. It amounted to approximately eight cases of Rosemount Wines, which was presented by Rosemount Estates former CEO Bob Oatley.

Praising his crew, he said "My crew kept me honest," he said "It wasn't easy but they succeeded and we won! Three guns (line honours) in the last three races. we are happy with that."

Twelve owner/drivers contested the three-day Regatta, which was hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on behalf of the Australian Farr 40 OD Association.

The last two races of the eight-race series were staged on Pittwater today off Towlers Bay. While racing throughout the series has been very close, shifting North to North West winds provided a major challenge all skippers and the race committee.

"Racing inside Pittwater would be one of the most difficult courses for a 40-footer to do," said Robert Skinner, owner/driver of third place getter Weapon.

"It was difficult to find a breeze that was stable enough to sail in," said the RPAYC's Yachting Administrator Denis Thompson.

Australian Class President of the Farr 40 OD Association, Richard Perini, who came second in the series said, "It has been a magnificent series, with good weather throughout. We could have done with a bit more breeze on the last day, but overall, the racing has been excellent," he said.

"Once again, Denis Thompson and the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club did a fantastic job in running the race."

The next event on the calendar of the Australia Farr 40 OD Association is the Farr 40's Over 40's Regatta at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in April 2002.
